The Most Beautiful Café In The World: New York Café, Budapest

The Most Beautiful Café In The World: New York Café, Budapest Budapest has been on my bucket list for some time and I was lucky enough to explore this stunning and historical city last summer. Full of beautiful architecture, relaxing spas and quirky "ruin bars" this is a place for adventure, there's so much to see and do, 6 days simply wasn't enough. One of the very few grand places we did visit whilst wandering these (very hot summer!) Hungarian streets was New York Café (New York Kávéház), part of the truly grand Boscolo Budapest hotel, formerly known as the New York Palace. The Most Beautiful Café In The World: New York Café, Budapest If you think tea at The Ritz is glamorous, then this will knock you off your hot, sweaty feet entirely. In fact, The Ritz should be worried at the grandeur compared, this is the place to be for a spot of tea and cake if you want to be surrounded by grandeur and opulence. Even as a tourist, you will be welcomed in by a friendly smile at the front door and taken to your white-linen covered table with a seat pulled out for the ladies, the little touches such as these make for such a pleasant experience. The Most Beautiful Café In The World: New York Café, Budapest I couldn't help but stare in awe for a good ten minutes before I even looked at the tea menu, completely distracted by the pianist tinkling away on the grand piano in front of us and the stunning decor sparkling in the light from the chandeliers above. Everywhere you look there are marble tiles, murals, grand staircases, carved pillars and ornate brass decorations around every corner, even the ceilings called my name as I sat back and enjoyed taking it all in. The Most Beautiful Café In The World: New York Café, Budapest You can see straight away why this place has an enormous reputation of being the most beautiful coffee house in the world. It's a bold statement, but one I must agree with. The Most Beautiful Café In The World: New York Café, Budapest   They serve classic Hungarian breakfasts and dishes such as a beef Goulash, Chicken Paprikash or even grilled Foie Gras, but it was the coffee and desserts we were here to enjoy whilst resting out of the heat of the day - it was so hot that the streets were being washed down with cold water to stop the tarmac from melting! They serve stunning and traditional Hungarian desserts such as Dobostorta (chocolate and caramel layered cake), Sachertorte (chocolate and apricot torte) and Eszterházy Torta. Esterházy Torta is a Hungarian cake made with buttercream spiced with cognac or vanilla, sandwiched between four or five layers of almond meringue (macaron) dough. The torta is iced with a fondant glaze and decorated with a chocolate striped pattern. The Most Beautiful Café In The World: New York Café, Budapest What I love with this menu is that there are beautiful photos next to each option so that you can see what you are ordering. When there are so many cakes and desserts on offer, a cake lover needs to see what the choices actually are, don't you agree? Normally I would say pictures next to menu options is a cheesy offering, but it was actually welcomed here. We, naturally, chose a couple of different treats to enjoy so that we could sample more than one… there's too much to choose from, it would simply be rude not to. The Most Beautiful Café In The World: New York Café, Budapest A creamy and intense coffee flavoured Opera Szelet and a beautifully presented dark chocolate and apricot Sacher Torta encased within a decorative chocolate box alongside a New York Cappucino complete with miniature homemade biscuits for dunking - cake heaven! There wasn't a crumb left. We took our time, watching enviously as the stunning afternoon tea tiers appeared at tables around us, enjoying every bite and every sip - it was worth every single Hungarian Forint. The Most Beautiful Café In The World: New York Café, Budapest If you want somewhere for a spot of afternoon tea, or a special treat that will have you in awe from the moment you arrive, then take a visit to the New York Café in Budapest. Open seven days a week, this is the perfect place to indulge, no matter how hot or cold it is outside.
